Stuff We Love: Trailer Upgrades

Our friends at Family Handyman have been busy restoring this vintage 1972 Avion Trailer. I know a lot of you are probably pulling a trailer from job to job. So today, I’d like to share some of the products the Family Handyman crew used on their project so you, too, can have an ultimate trailer. Weather Guard Storage Chest
If you need a secure spot for those tools or materials you grab the most, this all-purpose chest is spot on. It’s designed to sit below a truck bed rail, but you can also bolt it to the tongue of your trailer for extra storage. Zero clearance is needed for opening the cover so you can snug it tight to your trailer. The lid opens to 90 degrees and has hydraulic stays for convenient access.
The cover also has a full weather seal that, with the automotive-style rotary latch mechanism, is kept tight to seal out the elements. The tamper-resistant lock operates smoothly and will keep your things locked up tight. Weather Guard really lives up to its name with this secure and virtually bulletproof box.
Master Lock Trailer Lock
If you leave your trailer at a job site, you want it to be there when you return. This bright red Master Lock hitch lock is one of the best trailer theft deterrents out there. And the thick finish will resist rust and corrosion. The low cost of this lock will buy you a whole lot of peace of mind.
DoHonest Wireless Backup Camera
When backing your trailer into a tight spot you want to see exactly where you’re going. This system is great for just that. And on the highway, it’s terrific at keeping track of what’s behind you. The seven-inch HD vehicle monitor screen will flip the image to normal facing or rear mirror orientation. It also has a split screen ability to add as many as four cameras. The waterproof camera has night vision technology for clarity in the dark.
Installation is easy because it’s wireless, so there’s no need to run cable from the camera to the monitor. The wireless range is impressive; we found it worked well beyond the manufacturer’s spec of 65 ft. The next time you back your trailer over a nail embedded in a 2×4, you’re going to wish you had this system installed.
