Here's a transcript from my TV card of Hugh Laurie's acceptance speech at the Golden Globes:

As the talented doctor and unfaithful husband, patrick dempsey, "grey's anatomy."

[ Applause ]

As the take charge doctor, matthew fox, "lost."

[ Applause ]

[ Laughter ]

My turn.
As the bitingly brilliant hysician, hugh laurie, "house."

[ Applause ]

As a convict trying to help his brother escape, wentworth miller, "prison break."

[ Applause ]

As special agent jack bauer, kiefer sutherland. "24."

[ Applause ]

And the golden globe goes to --

hugh laurie, "house."

[ Applause ]

Oh, my goodness. Thank you so much. Thank you for the hollywood foreign press association for this. This is absolutely terrific.

On the way over here, I made a list of all the people who deserved to be thanked.

Came to 172 names.

You ready?

So obviously I can't do that.

What I did was I wrote down 172 names put them on individual pieces of paper. I have them in my left-hand trouser pocket. I'm just going to draw out three at random. And everyone else can just lump it.

I'll give it a shake.

[ Laughter ]

I'd like to thank the script supervisor ira hurwitz.

[ Applause ]

I'd like to thank the hair stylist, diana akry.

[ Applause ]

(Ed: pulls a piece of paper from his pocket, looks at it, and drops it on the ground.)

The hell with that.

[ Laughter ]

I'd like to thank my agent christian hodel.

[ Applause ]

(Ed: Looks at paper.)

That's not my handwriting.

[ Laughter ]

Oh, he's good.

The people I must thank, of course, are paul, whose original concept the show "house" was. Brian, whose rampant hypochondria has informed the entire thing. Katie jacobs whose wit and taste has stamped itself in every frame of every show. And finally the incomparable david shaw who is one of the -- yes, who is one of the finest writers it has been my privilege to say the lines of.

[ Laughter ]

I could have done with him in the middle of that sentence.

I would like to thank obviously my fellow cast members and wonderful crew. All the other terrific writers.

 

My good friend steven frey [SIC] sitting over there.

Finally most importantly my wife jo who has come all this way.

My three children. They're sitting at home, in which case I say to them now, go to bed.
