Just a quick plug...
By: Julie

The co-writer of tonight's episode was Doris Egan. She's slated to be a guest at FenCon this fall as a special guest.

I'm pushing for a House panel this year, and I suspect I won't have too push very hard! Speaking of tonight's episode, did anyone else wonder just a bit about the final diagnosis? Oh, it's early and I won't go into spoilers. Let's give it a couple of days and then I'll open up a blog topic for discussion. How's that?

Who do you think will make the cut and why? Discuss.

Update: I just lost a huge entry. The upshot: Now that we know who got canned and why, what do you think?

I'll try to add more later but Wednesday is bowling night.

You Don't Want to Know - Discuss

"Bring me the thong of Lisa Cuddy."

Thus House issues a new challenge to his staff of candidates.

I have to wonder how much fun Hugh Laurie must have had with that line. Pardon me while I digress a moment. I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue has been airing on BBC radio for about 30 years. If you're a Britcom fan, you'll recognize a couple of the old farts in that photo in the link. (Steven Fry, incidentally, has sat in the guest chair several times over the years) One of their long-running jokes is puns on the title of the Sam Pekinpah film Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia. Of course, House probably had this masterpiece of film art in mind.

In this episode we learn that Cole and Kutner hang out together. I can imagine that Kutner had to drag the strait-laced Cole out to the nightclub. And this is where our case begins - not even a red herring - as the magician starts drown seconds into the classic Houdini Chinese Water Torture escape routine.

We certainly learned something new about everyone - including who Cuddy would like to see fired. It was also interesting to see how nearly everyone sucked up to Kutner, and why one doc didn't go through the motions.

And the diagnosis! Holy cow! If you laid money on when that was going to happen, did you win?

Who gets fired next? The preview gave a possible clue, but that could be a red herring. Remember, House fired Taub only to be overruled by Cuddy. And while that appears to be shot over the shoulder of one of the candidates, can we be sure that House is actually speaking to that person?

Now's your chance to discuss. Who do you think will get fired and why?

(By the way the "Leave a Comment" link does work, even though it isn't highlighted. Just click. I'll work on fixing that.)

House Rules (11/20/07)
By: Julie

Since we're opening up a new participation section it seemed a good idea to lay down a few House Rules. Essentially, they're what you see in the Guestbook Terms and Conditions. Yes, that document hasn't been updated in over a year, but there has been no reason to do so.

It's worth repeating the bold print:

But please, disagree or leave constructive comments in a civil manner. That's all we ask.
That's really not asking for much, is it?

Please do pay attention to the sections on abusive behavior and linking and spamming. Yes, you may include a link to your web site in your comment. But if your comment is really a thinly-veiled ad for a product or service (especially one not related to what we do here) it will be deleted. So yes, this means the poker, porn, and meds ads (even if they are for Vicodin) will be deleted.

If you make an ass of yourself you WILL get banned and we reserve the right to report you to your ISP. We also reserve the right to edit comments for language or to fix links (or remove questionable ones). Anything we deem uncivil will get removed. A little mild swearing is okay, but use some discretion, please. People of all ages and cultural backgrounds visit, and we owe it to everyone to moderate our language just a bit.

Comment moderation is presently not on, but it may be enabled at any time.

We do have a CAPTCHA system. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it was a choice between that, registration, or 100% comment moderation. If you are unable to use the CAPTCHA for any reason, please send an e-mail to snark - at - housefans - dot - net. We can manually update the database with your comment. It's a pain, but until we find a better way to deal with spam, it has to be this way.

This post will get stickied, so whenever we update it we'll change the date in the title.

Thanks for your understanding.

Welcome to the new HouseFans.net blog
By: Julie

At last, we have a blog! This has taken some time to put together because of real life issues, but I hope it will be a useful feature.

The blog is intended to spark mini-discussions on various aspects of the show. Starting tomorrow I'll have an entry for each new episode (we'll cover the repeats as well). I'm also going to start some special dedicated threads. See the right sidebar for information. These entries will be permalinked for easy access.

How do you keep updated? Easy. Click on the RSS link on the page or use the icon in your browser, if it supports autodiscovery of feeds. In addition to blog feeds, we have feeds for the comments thread to each entry. These will land in whatever RSS reader you happen to use. Sorry, we don't support subscriptions via e-mail.

I'm also in the process of working on a tagging system and a search engine for the blog.

What's next for the site? Glad you asked. I'm working on an overhaul of the main database. This is why you're not seeing any updates, though I will get up-to-date with the episode titles before I tear too much apart.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.
